This Care Facility was one of the few "Purpose Built" Limited Group Homes to have been built in the City of Edmonton and one of the first to be built under the latest version of the Alberta Building Code which turned what was to be a residential structure into a commercial/institutional building.
This well-versed Owner that operates many small scale Limited Group Homes was finding it more and more difficult to retrofit existing homes to meet the ever-changing building code requirements. Thus the need for a "Purpose Built" Limited Group Home.
One of the Owner's core values is to provide their services in a home like environment that blends in and becomes part of the fabric of the neighbourhood. This became increasingly more difficult as interpretations of the code began to move it to a more institutional structure which is completely against the Owners need to serve their residents in a non-institutional environment. However, the end product very much looks like a bungalow that looks and feels like a single-family home. We would say, Mission Accomplished!
Our strong understanding of the building codes allowed us to provide informed guidance to the Owner's through finalizing the design and ultimately building the home that they wanted. It was without question a difficult project to get completed as the expectations of the building code changed so much from the original plan to the finished product.

- Fully ADA compliant and can serve many specific client needs

- Site-specific ADA compliant front walkway access
The Owner demonstrated remarkable leadership in their field, with the hope of creating a model the care community can replicate. We very much enjoyed working with the Owner in completing this very unique project.
